My regular

Happy Monday! I totally did not want this weekend to end.  We escaped into the woods for the weekend and had such a great time enjoying the sunshine.  It was so great to unplug for a few days and really unwind.
Getting out of town always let's me think about my focus with my art and reground myself with what's important.  I know deciding to be an artist full time was one of the hardest decisions of my life because I would be giving up a steady pay check, the 401k, and I knew it would be hard.   I realized that don't I deserve happiness? I know everyone has their own set of circumstances but guess what? you deserve happiness.
I have been thinking a lot about when you are a kid and you get asked the question - What do you want to be when you grow up?  I always said that I wanted to be an artist and looking back I thought it was more of a wish.  I mean my parents have regular jobs and we lived in a regular house and I know I was supposed to be and want to be regular but over the last few years I realized that I needed to figure out what my regular is.   When I say regular I just mean the middle of what happiness is as an individual- not anything boring but everything extra-ordinary.

Creative thoughts your way this week :)

I would LOVE to be able to quit the corporate world and just create but the thought alone gives me wicked anxiety so good for you! I think doing something that extreme is so freeing in life and pushes us in a good way.

I packed up three suitcases and moved across the country without knowing a single soul. That's about as much pressure that my body can handle.

I love that Hafiz quote! He is one of my favorite poets.

This post really strikes home with me. I'm still figuring out what I want to do when I grow up (ahem, one more semester), and I am scared to deviate from the "regular" route. But your post inspires me! It can be done!

Great insight. I need to start asking myself this question. :)

Wow - so happy that you did what's best for you and decided to simply be an artist. The thought of no steady income terrifies me! I hope one day to be so brave and take the step that will lead me to my dreams.

Love this quote!
and love to hear that you stuck with your dreams of becoming an artist. I use to want to be one too, but my dad told me he wouldn't support my college education. It was harsh of him, but looking back Im ok with it. I don't think I have enough artistic skill to go very far. plus I ended up majoring in Interior Design, this way I get to use my artistic side plus a little more!

Thanks for stopping by my blog by the way!

That is such a lovely quote! I know what you mean - getting away from the hustle and bustle of life is always such a great time for reflection...and it's always good to reprioritize and realize what really makes you happy. I'm going through that struggle right now too - should I just get a "normal" job and let a part of myself die? Or should I stick to what I love doing, even though I'm not making enough money from it yet. Isn't that the constant struggle with free-spirited artists?! But it's always so inspiring to see people like you, who pursue their art and continue to do so because it's their happiness :) I'll carry that inspiration with me all week (and hopefully longer! :)

I know where I want to be: I want to buy a house with a large garden and have hundreds of animals, possibly closer to the lake, wuth lot of green around. But I don't know what I want to be. Still. My problem is that i want to be everything. I can't pick one.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog! It's always nice to get out of town and take time for yourself.

that's amazing that you left your job to be a painter. I wish I was able to do that with my photography.

I definitely understand what you are saying. I always hate telling people what I really love doing, because I feel like they'll judge me or something. I'm different; I need to embrace it!

I am still asking myself what I want to be when I grow up and I swear it changes daily. I thought I wanted to dress up and wear stilettos and have a 401k, but it is painful (not just the stilettos ;). Good for you for going for your wish/dream. You're a motivation to us all!

I once saw this stand- up comedy act (the dude is really well known, but I really can't remember his name) and he was talking about childhood dreams. It made me really sad when the guy asked why the room isn't filled with firefighters and ballerinas.

first of all, that quote is amazing.
second, i too have an "unordinary" life and jobs that will never give me the financial security of say a corporate job, but we have only one life to live and i want to make it amazing! :)

i love this. i work in finance, but in a part of it where we write all day, come up with opinions, are always posing questions to get to the bottom of things - so it makes it so much more interesting, thoughtful and provoking for me. and it took two years and quitting multiple jobs to get here, and i stopped caring if people thought i was a failure or that i couldn't stay in one job too long. i knew what i wanted, so i did it, and i'm very happy. it's great to hear that you did it too, no matter if it's the "safe" thing to do or not.

Ah, you are so inspiring! It's scary, not doing what's considered "normal" or "average" or "safe.." but we have to do what will make us happy! I hope that I can take the time to focus on my writing after college :)

Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my one-month-anniversary blog post! I really appreciate it. I'm totally digging your blog! Looking forward to more posts from you :)

I know what you mean!! I'm working a job where my regular hours are late at night and I'm missing out so much on my 2 year old growing up. I'm pretty tempted to go down the work-from-home route.

great post. I always grew up wanting to be an artist but thinking this was too unrealistic. so instead I wanted to be a scientist b/c that was an "important" job. Once that made me miserable, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to try art again.

I once read that we should grow up and do what me most loved as a child. I always said I wanted to be a writer and help animals and, to this day, nothing has changed! Well, except more details have been added on.
